THOMAS J. MEDAGLIA Iii

With more than 40 years of experience in government and public affairs, Thomas Medaglia III offers the knowledge and expertise of working on Capitol Hill and with many government agencies.

 

Tom established Thomas Advisors after RWE AG, a large German- based energy company, disposed of all its U.S. assets. At the time, he was the head of RWE North America Corp., the U.S. holding company, responsible for coordinating U.S. public affairs and federal relations. U.S subsidiaries included American Water, CONSOL Energy, RWE Solar, NUKEM and Turner Construction.

 

Prior to RWE, Tom had a successful career working for AMOCO, then BP, before deciding to take early retirement to establish RWE North America.  He began his career as AMOCO’s state lobbyist in Michigan, Indiana and Ohio before becoming director of the company's U.S. state government affairs program based in Chicago. He was later promoted to director of federal relations, responsible for Washington’s upstream, midstream and environmental issues in addition to Middle Eastern, Indian and Eastern European affairs. Tom played a role in the AMOCO merger teams with BP and the ARCO acquisition.

 

Prior to his AMOCO career, Tom practiced law in Ohio and Michigan during which time he started and owned a multi-state restaurant and comedy club chain.

 

Tom is an Adjunct Professor of Law and Public Policy at Northwood University and an advisor to the U.S. Oil and Gas Association.  He is active in many Washington associations and is a current board member of the Ripon Society and a former founding board member of the German American Business Council. 

 

He holds a B.A. in Education from The Ohio State University and a Juris Doctor degree from Western Michigan’s Thomas M. Cooley School of Law. He is licensed to practice law in Ohio, Michigan and the U.S. Supreme Court.
